Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico's Penny Howard Makes a Difference in Albuquerque
As part of its ongoing focus on giving back to the community, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is recognizing volunteerism with the "Volunteer of the Year Award" for an employee who captures the spirit of "giving back." BCBSNM employees volunteered more than 1,800 hours this year, and employee Penny Howard especially exemplified this spirit of volunteerism.
"We are proud to recognize Penny as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico's Volunteer of the Year," said BCBSNM president Liz Watrin. "Her eagerness to help others is a perfect example of corporate citizenship, which is a core value of our company."
BCBSNM employees provide nominations for the Volunteer of the Year. Howard, a supervisor in Marketing Operations, is a deserving candidate for her 20 years of volunteer work while working at BCBSNM. She has served as team captain for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and in leadership roles for Operation Back to School, the Adopt-a-Family program, and many other company outreach efforts. Howard is also very involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Association.
In honor of the award, BCSBNM donated $1,000 to the New Mexico chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Howard’s name.
