BCBSNM's Natalie Roy Makes a Difference in Albuquerque

December 28, 2011

Albuquerque, NM — As part of its ongoing focus on giving back to the community, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) recognizes volunteerism with the “Volunteer of the Year Award” for an employee who captures the spirit of “giving back.” Employee Natalie Roy especially exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism through her tireless commitment to the community, logging more than 540 personal volunteer hours during 2011.

"We are proud to recognize Natalie as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s 2011 Volunteer of the Year,” said BCBSNM president Liz Watrin. “Her eagerness to help others is a perfect example of corporate citizenship, which is a core value of our company. Natalie also strives to teach her children the value of volunteerism by encouraging their involvement with charities in our community.”

BCBSNM employees provide nominations for the Volunteer of the Year. For several years, Natalie and her children have volunteered weekly at the Ronald McDonald House. Natalie has also given of her time and energy to the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation, Casa Esperanza, Inc., United Blood Services, and Roadrunner Food Bank’s Souper Bowl. Natalie has also supported BCBSNM’s community outreach by volunteering with our Operation Back to School program and the holiday Adopt-a-Family event.

In honor of the award, BCSBNM donated $1,000 to the Barrett House Foundation in Natalie’s name. The Barrett Foundation serves as an emergency shelter for homeless women and children.
