Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Debuts New Care Van
Albuquerque, NM — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) will debut its new Care Van in Albuquerque at its monthly Pajarito Mesa Outreach Clinic on Wednesday, August 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The new leased van replaces the old van that accrued more than 140,000 miles while traveling statewide since 2006 to improve health outcomes for all New Mexicans.
The new 30-foot Care Van is used for basic checkups, immunizations and flu shots, dental screenings, educational services, and medical outreach in partnership with the statewide offices of New Mexico Department of Health, Eastern New Mexico University at Roswell Division of Health, Asthma Allies, University of New Mexico School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, and other health care providers.
"We are pleased to continue the success of the Care Van program with this new leased vehicle,” said Dr. Matthew Fontana, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “By providing medical screenings and immunizations to underserved populations of New Mexico, BCBSNM is meeting the health care needs of at-risk families in the communities where they work and live. This program is an important part of our efforts to promote the health and wellness of our state while helping, long-term, to reduce health care costs."
Doctors with the University of New MexicoSchool of Medicine, along with medical, nursing, and school of pharmacy students, will be on hand to provide medical exams, prescriptions, and other general health services as part of the monthly health clinic on Pajarito Mesa.
The new van will continue to serve New Mexicans at immunization clinics, health fairs, and community events statewide. In addition to the new exterior design and an expanded floor plan, the new van will provide medical staff with the latest amenities.
