As part of its ongoing focus on giving back to the community, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is recognizing volunteerism with the "Volunteer of the Year Award" for an employee who captures the spirit of "giving back." BCBSNM employees volunteered more than 1,800 hours this year, and employee Penny Howard especially exemplified this spirit of volunteerism.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) received a Gold Award in the MarCom Awards 2010 competition for Blues Healthline, the BCBSNM member newsletter. The MarCom Awards is an international competition to honor excellence in marketing and communication.

Now that the pandemic threat is generally over, insurers like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) are concerned that members may be less motivated to vaccinate this year, which could result in more people suffering from seasonal flu.

Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) is offering physicians and healthcare facilities access to a new tool that will assist them in identifying health risks for nine million patients across the country. The CareProfile^® is an electronic health record (EHR) created with the collaborative input of MEDecision, Availity, and HCSC's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in New Mexico, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Although new mammogram and cervical cancer screening guidelines have recently been proposed, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) will continue to provide medical coverage for routine mammograms and cervical cancer screenings for women as ordered by their physicians and outlined in the member's certificate.
