Prime Therapeutics, LLC, the pharmacy benefit manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM), signed a three-year wholesaler provider agreement with Cardinal Health.
Effective August 1, 2008, Cardinal Health will serve as Prime Therapeutics' primary supplier of brand and generic pharmaceuticals.
Cardinal Health currently serves 14.6 million members through Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, employer and union groups, and third-party administrators. Prime Therapeutics will gain additional supply chain services to help improve operational and cost efficiency.
What does this mean for members with BCBSNM Rx benefits?
Prime Therapeutics will receive products faster and have a broader supply of generic drugs. For our members this means improved turnaround time and faster delivery of prescription drugs via PrimeMail® (Prime Therapeutics' mail-order service).
Because the supplier is different, you may experience a change in the appearance of your medications. If you are affected by the change, you will be notified the following ways:
- You'll receive a letter from PrimeMail explaining the difference.
- A message will be printed on the invoice that comes with your refill to notify you of the change. The message will tell you to see the drug description section on your patient information sheet (included with every order).
- A notification will be printed on your prescription bottle label.
If you have questions about your medications, speak with your doctor. For questions about prescription drug benefits, you can call the customer service number printed on your BCSBNM ID card.
