Supporting Members and Neighbors Impacted by Wildfires

Supporting the communities it serves is at the forefront of everything Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico does, and the company is committed to helping people affected by the Ruidoso wildfires.

BCBSNM community outreach specialists and care coordinators joined disaster relief efforts at the evacuee resource center in Roswell to help members access care, medical services, hydration and hygiene items. They collaborated with the New Mexico Department of Health and Vdex Diabetes to provide health screenings to everyone in need in our Care Van®.

“We are part of this community and we’re here to assist our members and neighbors,” says BCBSNM President Janice Torrez. “That’s why we’re providing support and resources and donating needed supplies and funds to those who are affected by the wildfires.”

BCBSNM donated $50,000 to the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico to support the wildfire relief efforts, and employees are holding a donation drive to collect supplies, including clothing, baby care products, toiletries and food.

“I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports New Mexico communities,” says Mary Jones, a project analyst. “As a BCBSNM team member and New Mexican, I feel compelled to help those displaced by the wildfires. I hope they know we care and they’re not alone.”

Customer care representatives are reaching out to members to help them obtain care and medical services such as enhanced access to prescription drugs, eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and medical devices.

BCBSNM's website, www.bcbsnm.com, includes wildfire support information for members. Also, members can call the number on their member ID. Customer care representatives are available to help.

BCBSNM will continue to provide information, resources and support to members and communities impacted by the Ruidoso wildfires.
