Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is pleased to announce the promotion of Wei-Ann Bay, M.D., to chief medical officer. Dr. Bay has served as a medical director at BCBSNM since 2018.
In this new role as chief medical officer, Dr. Bay is responsible for the development and clinical oversight of our health care managed programs. In addition, Dr. Bay will maintain and enhance effective relationships with physicians, hospitals, and medical service companies. She will serve as a liaison with the other managed care organizations that administer the New Mexico Medicaid program to ensure cooperation with quality and utilization initiatives for Medicaid. Dr. Bay is also serving a three-year term on the board of directors at Oasis Albuquerque, a nonprofit organization that promotes successful aging, through 2023.
“Dr. Bay has been highly visible in the state’s Medicaid program and is an excellent choice for this position,” said Kurt Shipley, BCBSNM President. “I am confident that Dr. Bay will continue to contribute to the future success of BCBSNM.”
Before joining BCBSNM, Dr. Bay was a medical director at Molina Healthcare of New Mexico for five years. She has also served as a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and was on the clinical staff at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio.
Dr. Bay has a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed an internal medicine internship at the University of California-San Diego and an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
