ALBUQUERQUE — For 32 years Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) employees have provided school supplies to students through the Operation Back to School campaign. This year employees raised over $8,000 for eight schools.
Operation Back to School is an employee-driven campaign designed to provide the tools students need to succeed. When students have the right tools, they perform better in the classroom. BCBSNM employees delivered notebooks, pencils, colored pencils and other needed supplies to schools from Aug. 15 to 19.
“We understand that many New Mexican families are unable to buy everything their child needs each school year,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “Operation Back to School helps bridge the gap and provides basic items for students in need.”
BCBSNM employees delivered supplies to the following schools:
- Pajarito Elementary in Albuquerque
- Hawthorne Elementary in Albuquerque
- Algodones Elementary in Algodones
- La Promesa Elementary in Veguita
- Estancia Elementary in Estancia
- Cochiti Elementary in Peña Blanca
- Cuba Elementary School in Cuba
- White Mountain Elementary in Ruidoso
