To demonstrate their community commitment, employees at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico came together for an annual holiday giving initiative to enhance the holiday season for New Mexicans in need. Departments across BCBSNM organized gifts and support for those who faced a challenging holiday season.
"Being part of this initiative reminds me of the importance of community," says Stephanie Vigil, a clinical strategy manager at BCBSNM. "Supporting families in need during the holidays is about more than providing gifts — it’s about making sure our neighbors feel seen, valued and cared for no matter what they might be experiencing.”
Funds raised went toward gifts and essential items for women and families at the Roswell Homeless Coalition Shelter. Donations included holiday stockings filled with chocolate, batteries, lip balm and hygiene items on individual wish lists.
"We were truly honored and excited to partner with BCBSNM this Christmas season”, says Yazzmine Slay, director of the Roswell Homeless Coalition. “The gifts we received for our clients not only brightened their spirits but also served as a heartfelt reminder that they are cherished by the community and not forgotten."
BCBSNM employees also provided holiday gifts to students at Atrisco Heritage Academy High school facing homelessness, as well as students from Albuquerque Public School’s McKinney-Vento program and Indian Education Department, children in CYFD foster care and seniors at Ceja Vista Apartments. The gift-wrapped packages included a bicycle, scooter, doll house, tablet, cell phone and home goods to ensure each gift would be meaningful to the recipients.
“Giving back to our community is at the heart of who we are at BCBSNM”, says BCBSNM President Janice Torrez. “We are immensely proud of all our employees who come together to support those in need.”
This initiative highlights BCBSNM's ongoing commitment to New Mexico communities and reinforces the impact kindness, compassion and generosity can have during the holidays.
