The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires all children enrolled in Medicaid to have a blood lead level screening at 12 and 24 months. Children between the ages of 24 to 72 months should be screened if there is no record of previously being tested. Lead exposure in children can contribute to behavioral and learning problems, hearing loss or other health issues.
Take our brief survey on equipment and experiences: In an effort to increase mandatory blood lead level screening for children in New Mexico, we’re asking Turquoise Care providers to take a brief survey by March 22, 2025. It covers your experiences with the screening and your access to diagnostic equipment. The survey contains information regarding support that may be available for obtaining necessary testing equipment.
Note: Offering a lead exposure risk assessment questionnaire does not meet the lead screening requirement.
For more information on the screening, review our Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment Clinical Practice and Billing Guideline or refer to the New Mexico Department of Health website.
