Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I make sure my doctors or hospitals are in-network?

If you want a new health plan but not a new doctor, we can help. There are a few things you can do to find out if your plan covers the health care professionals you already visit:

    • Search online for in-network care local to you. Use our website to find out which plans cover visits to your doctor:

    Albuquerque

    Las Cruces

    Santa Fe

    Roswell

Ask your doctor if they’re part of your plan’s network.

  • What can I do if my current doctor or hospital isn’t in my network?

Before choosing a new health plan, you’ll want to check that the doctors you already visit are in that plan’s network. Otherwise, you may end up having to change providers or pay more out of your own pocket.

If your doctor isn’t in your plan’s network but you don’t want to find someone new, you can search for a new plan with a new network. You can do this during Open Enrollment or, if you go through certain life changes, during Special Enrollment.

  • How can I find in-network providers for different specialties, like pediatric, heart or cancer care?

When you’re facing a new health concern, finding a doctor that specializes in your diagnosis can feel overwhelming. There are a few options you have to get the care you need:

    • Search for specialized care local to New Mexico. Use the Find Care tool above or the BCBSNM mobile app to search for in-network doctors who specialize in your diagnosis.
    • Ask your doctor for a recommendation or referral. Getting a referral from your primary care provider is important if you have an HMO plan and want to save money.
