As a health-centric organization, we’ve built a strong foundation by acknowledging, respecting and celebrating the unique experiences of all individuals we call employees and the members we continue to serve.
One way we create a sense of belonging at BCBSNM is through our six Business Resource Groups.
The BRGs give employees the opportunity to connect with others who share similar dimensions of their identity — and those with different backgrounds, providing opportunities to learn and grow.
Through volunteer opportunities, employee engagement and targeted programs, they advance inclusion at work and in our communities.
The Native Americans in Progress Business Resource Group brought the Kyan Asdebi Odi:wokkwinne (Water Strider) Dance Group from the Zuni Pueblo to perform a buffalo dance in the courtyard of BCBSNM headquarters in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.
Volunteering in our communities is embedded in our company’s culture. In 2023, 325 employees volunteered more than 6,300 hours with 123 organizations through the Blue CorpsSM program. BCBSNM donated more than $17,500 to 19 organizations in matching dollars for hours volunteered by employees.
Our employees worked with one another to organize projects addressing needs in their communities throughout the year.
For 33 years, BCBSNM employees have raised funds for New Mexico students through Operation Back to School to provide supplies students need to excel in the classroom. This year, their efforts raised over $8,000 to support students across the state.
Nicky Singh, our 2023 Volunteer of the Year, logged more than 700 Blue Corps hours last year. Singh, a care coordinator for Blue Cross Community Centennial, recently started volunteering with Street Safe NM and ASUR Street Outreach. Both organizations advocate for women experiencing homelessness, many of whom are victims of violence.
“What I most enjoy are the interactions and connections I make during outreach,” Singh says. “While not all interactions are happy ones, each one is a learning opportunity which allows me to be more prepared for the next.”

As a health insurance company, we know the health of our employees is vital. That’s why we provide a range of programs and resources that inform and engage our employees to focus on their physical and mental well-being.
A priority for 2023 was encouraging employees to participate in Well OnTarget®. The program begins with an online health assessment. From there, employees receive wellness coaching, customized educational strategies, advice from certified health coaches, and affordable access to fitness facilities to help them reach their wellness goals. As an incentive, we provide $100 to employees who participate. They also earn points for wellness activities that can be used for gifts.
The program is widely promoted with monthly webinars and employee newsletter articles, and those efforts have paid off. Participation in the health assessment grew more than 260% from 2022 to 2023, and use of the Well OnTarget platform grew 140%.*
